Dairy livestock

In its 16-year history, the BioSistêmico Institute has carried out more than 60 dairy farming projects with around 60,000 assistances carried out in 16 states, covering 23,000 producers, most of whom are family farmers. IBS' work in this segment covers an estimated area of 719,250 hectares.

For technical assistance to dairy farms, IBS makes available three important mobile units equipped with a laboratory and support instruments for field activities: the "Vaca Móvel” (herd health and milk quality), the “Mobile Rufião” (reproductive management) and the “Agro Móvel” (property management and herd nutrition).

In all projects carried out by the IBS, the aspect of environmental preservation is prioritized. The guidelines are passed on considering how it is possible to prevent and minimize impacts on the environment. Among the measures aimed at preventing damage to the environment, there is the reduction in the use of agrochemicals, implementation or protection of legal reserve areas and soil preservation and conservation via coverage, terracing and protection of springs.

In addition, the promotion of animal health and welfare is widely worked on among the producers served. A well-kept herd, with health up to date, produces more, generates less medication expenses and produces better quality milk.

With adjustments in reproductive management, the genetic improvement of herds is encouraged, with more resistant cows that produce more. The reproductive efficiency of the herd has an impact on the preservation of the environment, as productivity is increased without increasing food consumption, as well as the emission of greenhouse gases, since the same number of cows is maintained.

The IBS’ teams are committed to sharing technical information and technology for the field so that the producer develops production, productivity, milk quality and, with that, achieves more income and prosperity in his business. This is one of the pillars of sustainability, the economic viability of the activity.

All actions are interconnected, one interferes with the other and the IBS acts with this systemic view (bio+systemic), considering the entire property as a living organism. Therefore, for sustainable production, IBS’ teams guide changes to the property considering all these aspects.
