Cooplaf Leite Project conducts service rounds in reproductive management

Updated: May 3, 2022

The IBS teams performed a gynecological evaluation of the bovine females and an FTAI protocol in the selected cows.

Promoting the genetic improvement of dairy herds is one of the main objectives of the Cooplaf Leite Project, which covers 100 properties located in family farmer settlements in the Terenos region, in Mato Grosso do Sul. The services aimed at reproductive management were started by Instituto BioSistêmico (IBS) as of March 21.

In the first stage, the veterinarians performed consultations with Rufião Móvel, an IBS unit equipped with an ultrasound device for the gynecological evaluation of bovine females.

“With the ultrasound examination, it is possible to perform a more accurate analysis of the structures of cows reproductive system, verify the reproductive status, identify reproductive pathologies and select animals that present adequate ovarian activity for the ovulation synchronization protocols for later Fixed Time Artificial Insemination (FTAI)”, explains veterinary doctor Renata Alves, who was part of the reproductive management care team.

In this first round, 601 females were evaluated, with 256 classified as pregnant and 178 classified as empty and able to participate in the FTAI protocol. With reproductive management, the aim is to increase the number of lactating cows, reduce calving intervals, and increase the percentage of pregnant cows.
