IBS teams carry out a diagnosis of good practices in the Cooplaf Leite Project

Updated: May 3, 2022

Performed in the second round of consultations, the diagnosis is based on the CheckMilk methodology, which has a platform with a management system and application.

In the first half of March, the Instituto BioSistêmico (IBS) team carried out the second round of consultations, with a diagnosis of good practices in the 100 properties served by the Cooplaf Leite Project, in the region of the municipality of Terenos, in Mato Grosso do Sul.

The diagnosis is based on the CheckMilk methodology developed by IBS, which has a platform with a management system and application for the technical teams and the producers served. The CheckMilk system will facilitate the management of the Cooplaf Leite Project and the application will help producers on a daily basis, as a support, an extension of the IBS services.

The CheckMilk methodology was inspired by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the International Dairy Federation (IDF) guide to good sustainable milk practices. There are 160 check questions in six major areas: milking health and hygiene, animal welfare, socioeconomic issues and environmental issues.

“In the diagnosis of good practices, we identified points of non-compliance with IN 77 of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply, in addition to points that need improvements on the property. Based on this diagnosis, we prepared the action plan for each property and started to monitor and manage the improvements to be implemented”, explains veterinarian Matheus Henrique Silva, who worked on the diagnosis of good practices.

For the president of Cooplaf, Maria Nelzira Garcia, the project is of fundamental importance for the development of the dairy sector in the region, above all because it offers complete technical assistance, which covers property management, productive, sanitary and nutritional management in addition to strengthening associations and cooperation between producers.

“Our expectation is to improve the genetics of dairy herds in assisted properties, increase productivity and milk quality. With this, we will add more value to the milk sold by the cooperative, which will make it possible to increase the income of families dedicated to the dairy activity”, she highlights.
